Drafting view
The drafting view shows live data from RaceRanger drafting devices worn by athletes during non-drafting races. In race mode it lists the athletes around you who are drafting right now, so you can check what you see on the course and give a drafting penalty in a couple of taps.
Opening the drafting view
When the race uses RaceRanger drafting devices and you can report penalties on it, a Drafting button runs down the right side of the race mode screen. Tap it to open the drafting view, and tap BACK to return to race mode.
A technical delegate turns the devices on per race with RR drafting devices in the race settings; it only takes effect on races where drafting isn't allowed.
What the drafting view shows
The list shows the athletes within about 3 km of you who are drafting right now and, while you're moving, heading the same way as you — plus any athletes you've pinned. Pinned athletes stay at the top, followed by the athletes drafting, nearest first. When nobody is drafting, the view says No active drafting.
The header counts the devices reporting in the race (for example 12 UNITS), the athletes drafting right now, and the athletes you've pinned.
For each athlete, a row shows:
- Direction — an arrow showing whether the athlete is ahead of you or behind you.
- Athlete number — struck through for a disqualified athlete and dimmed for one who's out of the race.
- Drafting status — DRAFTING with the seconds of the current drafting spell, CLEAR, or STALE when the device hasn't reported for more than 15 seconds.
- Device name — shown in small text below the status, useful for spotting pairing issues or a device on the wrong bike mid-race.
- Warnings — icons when the device's battery is low or critical, when its GPS position is missing or poor, or when its heading doesn't match the bike's direction. Press and hold an icon to see what it means.
- Penalty cards — the penalties the athlete already has: a blue card for drafting, a yellow card for other penalties, and a red card marked DSQ for a disqualification.
- Distance — how far the athlete is from you, rounded to 10 m (NEARBY under 10 m, or miles if you use imperial units).
On a tablet, a strip beside the list shows who's AHEAD of you and who's BEHIND, with you (MOTO) in the middle.
The list updates live. If it ever looks stuck, or shows REFRESH FAILED, tap REFRESH.
Pinning an athlete
Tap the pin at the start of a row to keep that athlete in the list even after they stop drafting — handy when you're following a group. Tap it again to unpin.
Giving a drafting penalty
Tap an athlete's row to open the penalty form with the drafting penalty and the athlete's number already filled in, the device's position as the location, and a note such as "Drafting behind athlete number 38 for 25s". Check it against what you saw on the course, add anything else, and submit as usual — see Penalties.
Officials use the drafting data alongside their own observation; the decision to give the penalty stays yours.
Drafting devices in race control
On the web, race control's Map shows the same devices as its Athletes layer: each athlete's live position, coloured by the light their device shows.

Hover an athlete for their total drafting time (and the current spell), their yo-yo count — how many times they've moved in and out of the drafting zone — when the device last reported, and their penalty cards. Click an athlete to follow them on the map. See Race control.
Who sees the drafting view
The Drafting button appears in race mode for officials who can report penalties on a race that uses RaceRanger drafting devices. Practice races don't show it.
