Race reports
Race reports compile all penalty and incident data from a race into a downloadable format for distribution.
Generating a report
Race reports are generated automatically when a race ends. When a race is stopped (changed from active to inactive), the system creates a PDF report and attaches it to the event.
Officials with download permissions (typically Organisation Admin, Technical Delegate, or Technical Official) can access the report from the race view or the web interface.
What's in a report
A race report includes:
- Cover page — event name, location, dates, race name, distances, and organisation logo.
- Statistics summary — total athletes, finishers, DNF, DNS, DSQ counts. Penalty and incident totals broken down by type and status.
- Penalties table — every penalty with time, athlete number and name, type, status, reporter, description, and a map thumbnail showing where it was issued.
- Incidents table — every incident with time, athlete, type, severity, status, reporter, description, and map thumbnail.
- Weather progression — a chart showing temperature, wind, and water temperature over the course of the race, plus any severe weather events and wetsuit rulings.
- Officials roster — all officials assigned to the race with their roles.
- Course map — an overview map with penalty and incident locations plotted.
For merged races, the report combines data from all source races into a single document.
Report access
The generated report is a PDF. Access to the report can be restricted — only officials with the right permissions can download it.
The latest report URL is stored on the race record. Officials with the right permissions can access it from the race view or the web interface.
Who gets the report
Reports can be shared with:
- The governing body — for official records and compliance.
- The local organising committee — for event documentation.
- Timing teams — for integrating penalty data with race results.
- Media — for race coverage (with appropriate access controls).
Event log
In addition to formal reports, RaceRanger maintains a detailed event log that records every action:
- Penalty submissions, approvals, and status changes.
- Incident submissions and updates.
- Weather and environment updates.
- Who performed each action and when.
The event log provides a complete audit trail for the race.
