Quick penalty

The abbreviated steps to report a penalty during a race. For the long form (statuses, list filtering, approvals, evidence handling), see Penalties.

The five-tap version

From Race Mode Active:

  1. Report Penalty tile.
  2. Type the athlete number on the keypad → Enter.
  3. Tap the category (Drafting, Penalty, or Disqualification) then the specific type (e.g. Other Violations, Drafting, Equipment Outside Bin).
  4. Only on multi-box races: pick the penalty box (e.g. Bike 1, Run) → Confirm.
  5. (Optional) add a description or attach a photo → SUBMIT.

Tap through the whole flow:

From **Race Mode**, tap **Report Penalty**. Type the athlete's number on the keypad — the name resolves — then tap **Enter**. Choose the category: **Drafting**, **Penalty**, or **Disqualification**. Pick the specific violation type. On multi-box races, choose which penalty box, then **Confirm**. Add an optional note or photo, then **SUBMIT**. Done — the penalty is recorded and you're back at Race Mode.

The penalty is written immediately. A bottom-sheet notification ("Penalty Submitted") with a View shortcut appears for a few seconds. The Penalties tile's badge count goes up.

What the app records automatically

You don't need to type these — they're attached to the doc:

  • Your GPS location at submission.
  • The exact timestamp.
  • Your identity (which official reported it).
  • The race the penalty belongs to.

Cancel without submitting

Press and hold the Hold to cancel button until the form clears. A short tap won't do it (intentional — protects against accidental cancels while moving the phone around).

Voice instead of taps

If your role has Voice Report enabled, you can dictate "number 42, drafting, blocking" and the app classifies it for you. See Voice commands.

Approval

After submission the penalty status is Submitted. An official with approval permissions (typically Head Referee or Chief Race Official) opens it from the Penalties list, fills in a Reason for decision, and taps Approve (or Decline). The Are you sure? modal confirms the change. See Penalty statuses for the full lifecycle.

Back in Race Mode, open the **Penalties** tile. Find the **Submitted** penalty in the list and open it. Review the details and type a **Reason for decision**. Tap **Approve**, then confirm on the *Are you sure?* modal. Done — the penalty now reads **Approved** in its progress log.
