Joining an event

QR code access

Events in RaceRanger are accessed by scanning a QR code. Your event administrator or technical delegate will share this code — usually printed at the venue, sent via email, or displayed on a screen during the officials' briefing.

To join:

  1. Open RaceRanger and sign in.
  2. Tap Join Event on the events screen.
  3. Scan the QR code with your device camera.
  4. The app connects you to the event workspace.

Once you've joined, the event appears in your events list. You don't need to scan the code again — the event stays accessible until it's archived.

QR code sign-in on shared devices

The same QR code system is used to sign in on shared tablets. If you're at a venue with a shared device:

  1. The tablet shows a QR code on its screen.
  2. Scan it with your personal phone.
  3. The tablet is authenticated under your account and enters the event.

This avoids typing passwords on shared devices and provides a quick handoff between users.

What you see after joining

Your view of the event depends on the role assigned to you:

  • Organisation admins see event settings, user management, and high-level data.
  • Technical delegates see race configuration, official assignments, and preparation tools.
  • Technical officials see the race-day interface — penalties, incidents, chat, and tracking.

If you haven't been assigned a role yet, you may see a limited view until an administrator approves your access.

The event workspace

Inside an event, you'll find:

  • Races — the individual races within the event (e.g. sprint, Olympic, relay). Select a race to enter the race-day view.
  • Chat — team communication channels for the event.
  • Info — event details, documents, weather, and the officials list.
  • Notifications — alerts for penalties, incidents, race status changes, and assignments.

Switching between events

If you're assigned to multiple events, use the events list to switch. Tap the back arrow or the events icon to return to the list and select a different event.

Self-invitation

Some events allow officials to join without a pre-assigned role. After scanning the QR code, your access request is sent to the event administrator for approval.
